Blockchain News is a publisher of news, opinion and education in the blockchain crypto sector.

Kicking off in 2015, This blog was born of the desire to create an online repository and community for news and opinion about blockchain technology and theory. Our lofty goal was to share market intelligence and science on the emerging uses of blockchain outside of cryptocurrency as one of the earliest publications to focus on what can be done with it outside of Bitcoin. Originally, it was a labour of love and an open-source journalism project built to help the emerging community of idealistic innovators interested to learn more about its massive potential.

Today our journey still continues and we are dedicated to consistently bringing you the best and latest items on the subject of blockchain, but also cryptocurrencies.

Richard Kastelein - Founder 1967-2021

Was an early expert in the field of Blockchain and crypto. His explorations led him to found Blockchain News in 2015.

With Richard’s strong background in Journalism, he became an award winning publisher in 2017. He also sat on the advisory boards of a dozen Blockchain startups and wrote over 2,500 articles on Blockchain technology and startups at Blockchain News. He regularly travelled the planet advocating the world of Blockchain and Crypto as a keynote speaker.

His legacy is kept alive through his publication.

The team

Wieke Beenen - CEO/Publisher

Wieke has a long background in journalism, translation, and teaching.

She attended the Journalism program at the School for Journalism in Utrecht and the History and Journalism program at the RUG in Groningen. With native English and Dutch skills, she worked as a writer in the English media, but she also taught English and Dutch to young and older students. In 2010 he started her own translation business, which she ran for many years.

Wieke and her husband and founder Richard Kastelein ran Blockchain News together for some years, before he sadly passed away in 2021. She then took the helm to continue his life's work. Today, she is passionately leading a dedicated and strong team of writers and editors with her own ideas and vision.
