The Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin suggests multinational tech giant Apple to pull out of the UK claiming lack of digital privacy and encryption.
The Washington Post revealed that UK authorities now legally monitor all iCloud digital data around the world. People and organizations debate both user privacy and company obligations for companies in technology.
Apple reportedly will stop offering encryption services in the UK according to media outlets which many privacy supporters and business leaders strongly oppose.
Apple’s Privacy Efforts Earn Buterin’s Recognition
The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) in the US sees the British government’s new rules as harmful to digital security worldwide. Buterin fights for digital privacy and supports Apple leaving the UK market to avoid changing its secure encryption rules.
He stated his backing for Apple taking this stand by promising to buy new Apple products as part of their resistance to government surveillance. Buterin talked about the privacy benefits Apple offers and has owned AirPods since last year.
In 2022 Buterin supported Apple when they introduced end-to-end encryption for iCloud backups during iOS 16.2 release. Based on what he saw the company made progress according to his assessment. Although I have strong complaints about Apple the company did achieve good results by defending user privacy.
Buterin Criticizes Apple’s Closed-Source Model
Even so Buterin makes his voice heard against closed-source model Apple employs in their systems. He keeps telling Apple to move toward open-source development and let more companies distribute mobile apps to customers.
He addressed the public in 2020 by saying users need competing app stores and phone operating systems right now. British government demands for new privacy invasion rules create strong debate among tech businesses trying to balance legal needs with user security concerns.
People who follow Apple’s progress want to know if Apple will submit to the rules or stand strong and consider quitting the world’s largest market during its struggle with new regulations.

Seriously Apple, start letting your users download apps from alternative app stores already. https://t.co/Nza0WEBkDO
