Imagine being able to pay for your flight tickets, visa fees, hotel stays, and even a roadside snack using just your digital assets. No, manual conversion to fiat, no banking cards or banking applications — just you, your crypto and a Binance app. Well, Bhutan will allow you to do just that!
In partnership with Binance Pay and DK Bank, Bhutan has launched a national crypto tourism payment system. This makes the country located in the Himalayan region, the first country to do so across the globe. Bhutan’s new tourism payment system will allow travelers touring the country to pay for everything through cryptocurrencies.
Touring Bhutan, Armed With Just a Crypto Wallet for Your Payments
Full of subtropical plains, steep mountains, valleys and beautiful sceneries, Bhutan is a global tourist destination. But just like any other nation, touring the country armed with just a traditional form of payment is a challenge. There are high high transaction and currency exchange fees, and limited acceptance of international cards.
But then, comes crypto; a borderless and widely acceptable payment method that is solving the problems encountered in traditional forms of payment. And for Bhutan, this is a real deal — rather, a way to ensure that tourists can enjoy their journey without payment limitations.
And in partnership with Binance Pay and DK Bank, the country has launched a tourist payment system allowing travelers to pay for goods and services in crypto. Thanks to over 100 merchants in partnership with Binance Pay and DK Bank, the systems will allow tourists to pay for airline tickets, hotel bookings, local delicacies, taxi fees, local craft and much more, through several digital assets.

The Binance app will facilitate the scanning of static or dynamic QR codes for real time transactions. On the other hand, with support for over 100 cryptocurrencies, DK Bank will settle the payments instantly in local currency. Be it Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, BNB USDT, USDC and more, travelers will be able to use them all for payments in Bhutan, as long as they are supported.
Magical Place, Magic Internet Money — Purely Mystical Aura
Bhutan’s crypto tourism payment system is not only going to simplify tourist logistics in the country; no, it will spark a global movement for the adoption of cryptocurrencies in tourism. By solving some of the world’s tourism barriers such as high transaction fees and unacceptability of international TradFi payment cards, the system will serve as a benchmark for other nations.
Additionally, it will drive the adoption of cryptocurrencies in the country. With local Bhutanese, especially the small rural artisans and vendors, lacking access to card terminals, crypto will be an easier option to get aid for their services and goods.
“This is more than a payment solution – it’s a commitment to innovation, inclusion, and convenience,” Damcho Rinzin, Bhutan’s Director of Department of Tourism, stated.
With just a phone and a crypto payment QR code, Bhutanese locals even in the most remote of areas will be able to receive payments from travelers from across the world. Besides, it will also ensure that tourists have nothing short of a great experience when touring Bhutan.
