U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has rebranded its Coinbase Wallet as the Base app, introducing a platform that combines crypto trading, payments, and social features. The announcement was made during the company’s “A New Day One” event held in Los Angeles on July 10, 2025.
This Base app is supposed to be a crypto everything app to support crypto trading, encrypted messages, social media and mini-applications. It is also beta and early access waitlisted.
Base App to Serve as Coinbase’s Crypto Everything Hub
The Base app is designed to integrate multiple blockchain services into one application. Coinbase confirmed the rebrand in a blog post, stating, “Coinbase Wallet is now the Base app, evolving into an everything app that brings together social, apps, chat, payments, and trading.”

The app features a crypto wallet that supports payments and digital asset trading. Additionally, it includes end-to-end encrypted chat, allowing for peer-to-peer messaging with AI assistance for transactions.
John Granata, Head of Product for Base app, said the goal is to “expand economic freedom, creativity, and innovation.” He added that the Base app could become a new kind of social platform powered by Web3 infrastructure.
Social, Trading, and Mini Apps Power Base App Features
The base app’s social network is powered by Farcaster, an open protocol that enables users to own their content and earn income from their posts. No follower minimums or brand partnerships are required for monetization.
Users can trade supported cryptocurrencies directly within the app’s social feed. The trading feature supports buy, sell, and swap functionalities. Coinbase also introduced NFC-based tap-to-pay options via Base Pay, enabling instant payments using Circle’s USDC stablecoin.
The platform will support hundreds of embedded mini apps for gaming, DeFi, and prediction markets. These mini apps run on Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer-2 network, Base.
An integrated chat function will support secure messaging, with future updates to include AI agents for crypto-related queries and transactions. A “Sign in with Base” feature will also allow users to carry digital identities across Web3 platforms.
Coinbase Joins Global Race to Build Super Apps
Coinbase is entering the super app race alongside tech firms like Meta, X, WeChat, and Alipay. These companies aim to provide bundled services—social, financial, and utility—in one application.
Jesse Pollack, the creator of Base, called the rebrand a “new day one” for the platform. He posted the first tokenized selfie on the app during the launch event, signaling the start of the new platform’s user-generated content era.
Meanwhile, Binance Wallet hinted at similar plans with a cryptic post on X, stating, “Something big is coming up. Stay tuned!”
