KuCoin has secured ISO 27701 and SOC 2 Type II certifications, signaling its readiness to meet rising regulatory standards for crypto exchanges. The achievement builds on earlier recognition under ISO 27001:2022 and reinforces KuCoin’s $2 billion Trust Project aimed at transparency, compliance, and platform security.
ISO 27701 Builds on KuCoin’s Security Framework and Trust Project
The new certification strengthens the security system of KuCoin, as it targets personal data management. Whilst the ISO 27001 focused on information security, ISO 27701 also covers user information protection through the manner in which companies collect, utilize, store, and erase it, according to the press release. KuCoin said this milestone aligns directly with its Trust Project, launched earlier this year, to improve regulatory cooperation and safeguard user assets.
KuCoin highlighted that privacy controls are now embedded across its global operations. These controls cover the entire data lifecycle, from encryption and masking to breach response planning. Tools like Data Protection Impact Assessments and third-party service reviews have also been integrated. The exchange emphasized that these measures build credibility while meeting tougher global compliance demands.
The certification arrives at a time when regulators worldwide are tightening oversight of crypto platforms. U.S. regulators like the SEC and CFTC are exploring new frameworks for spot crypto trading, underscoring the fast-changing regulatory landscape. KuCoin stated it is prepared to adapt and maintain compliance as these rules evolve.

KuCoin’s Global Data Protection Officer, Alexis Niu, described the certification as a critical step forward. She said it confirms the exchange’s end-to-end data safeguards, including detailed risk assessments and robust breach-response measures. Niu emphasized that protection of personal data is not merely a compliance issue, but also the core of the long-term user trust strategy at KuCoin.
The exchange described how its enhanced privacy system gives power to the user as it provides the user with increased control over their personal information. KuCoin has structured its data subject rights request handling processes, enabling users to have more straightforward access to or control over their information by using its applications and support services.
